Easy Fix: How to Improve Blade 3

By Paul Bohnert

The first two Blade movies were flat out awesome. The first is up there with T2: Judgement Day as my favorite action movie, while the second was great with a little more of a traditional horror spin.

When I found out Blade Trinity was going to be released I was thrilled. With the first two being so good, I figured we’d be in for a strong conclusion for the series. Boy was I wrong.

I actually enjoyed the story itself quite a bit. It centers around those bastard vampires unearthing the original Dracula to take over the world. My biggest problem with the movie is the extra characters that were added to the film.

Ryan Reynolds is fine in Deadpool, but his character in Blade Trinity sticks out as just trying to lighten the mood of a dark series. Jessica Biel is there as well, I assume to give the film “diversity”(Wesley Snipes is African-American, FYI), but she really isn’t all that interesting.

The addition of these characters is not terrible in theory, the problem is that it takes away from Blade himself, who is the reason the audience is there in the first place.

Another issue, and this is with a lot of movies, is that is rated PG-13. WTF. The first two Blade movies were both very R, and awesome. I want to see more of Blade spiking a vampire’s head into the ceiling and less of Jessica Biel shooting a boring ass arrow.

Despite all of these problems, there are a few easy fixes we can make to really improve Blade Trinity. In this case I’ll visualize it for you by fixing the movie poster.

And now, here is what it should be:

  1. You wrote this whole post and somehow didn’t mention Triple H playing an effeminate vampire that carries around a little Pomeranian (that’s also a vampire, spoiler alert). Is this a pro or con for Trinity?
